Pesenti Foundation Supporting the Trappist Nuns in Syria

Fondazione Pesenti supports the construction of the new Monastery Beata Maria Fons Pacis, a place of peace established by the Trappist nuns in Syria.

The Trappist nuns in Syria are a small community of sisters belonging to the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, commonly known as Trappists. In 2005, a group of Italian nuns from the Valserena Monastery (Pisa) settled in Syria, near the Lebanese border in the region of Azer, to carry on the spiritual legacy of the Trappist monks of Tibhirine, Algeria, who were killed in 1996.

Their monastery, dedicated to Mary, Source of Peace, stands as a sign of hope in a country deeply scarred by war. It is a place of prayer, work, and hospitality, where the sisters strive to create an oasis of peace and beauty amidst conflict and suffering. Their mission goes beyond contemplative life: the nuns are also engaged in social outreach, supporting the local community through initiatives such as the construction of the monastery itself, which provides valuable employment opportunities in the area.
