Fondazione Pesenti and Young Caritas (Bergamo Caritas)

In 2022, “Sogliaggi: viaggi oltre la soglia” (journeys beyond the threshold) was launched—a project by Young Caritas, the youth branch of Caritas Bergamasca. This initiative is designed to speak to young people, listen to them, understand their needs, and offer them the chance to view the world through the lenses of empathy and charity. Young Caritas projects are aimed at both adolescents and preadolescents of school age, as well as young adults up to the age of 30.

Anyone who encounters a threshold in life cannot remain indifferent to it, as its very presence demands a decision. One can choose to remain on the threshold—or to “wave from the threshold” (Seneca, Letters to Lucilius, 49.6).

JULY– OCTOBER 2023

8 short-term travel, volunteer, and encounter experiences were organized for 35 young people aged 18 to 30 from the Diocese of Bergamo, with destinations including Rome, Lampedusa, Cyprus, Barcelona, Bethlehem, Sarajevo, Athens, and Pejë (Kosovo). Sogliaggi is not a vacation—it is an extraordinary educational opportunity that helps participants grow and engage with the world. Everyone who wishes to participate should have the right to do so, regardless of their financial means.
