Intercultura scholarships awarded to three young students from Bergamo, sponsored by Fondazione Pesenti

The students will have the opportunity to study for one year in Europe, supported by Intercultura volunteers and hosted by selected families.

Bergamo, July 26, 2023 – Today, at the Fondazione Pesenti headquarters, the award ceremony was held for two female students and one male student who won the Intercultura Scholarships for one year of study in Europe. These scholarships are promoted by Fondazione Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti and reserved for outstanding students residing in and attending high schools in the province of Bergamo.

The program abroad includes hosting by selected families, attending a local school, and support from a group of volunteers who accompany the students throughout their experience overseas. Participants will receive certification from Intercultura recognizing the skills developed at every stage of the program.

The three students distinguished by their excellent academic results and awarded the scholarships are:

  • Vittoria R., who attends the language high school at Istituto Scolastico Oscar Romero in Albino (BG) and will participate in a one-year program in Germany;
  • Alessandra Elena P., who attends the language high school at Istituto Lorenzo Federici in Trescore Balneario (BG) and will participate in a one-year program in Latvia;
  • Edoardo N., who attends the language high school at Istituto Superiore Statale “Simone Weil” in Treviglio (BG) and will participate in a one-year program in Spain.

In addition to the scholarship winners and their families, the ceremony was attended by Mietta Denti Rodeschini, Philanthropy Advisor and Vice President of Fondazione Intercultura, and Sergio Crippa, Secretary General of Fondazione Pesenti.

“We are very proud of this collaboration with Fondazione Pesenti, which has continued since the 2009/2010 school year and has already allowed many young people from Bergamo to experience a highly formative year abroad,” said Mietta Denti Rodeschini, Philanthropy Advisor and Vice President of Fondazione Intercultura. “International school exchanges are a way to engage civil society and institutions in a project that values diversity as a resource for global development. In today’s complex international context, Intercultura sees its role as essential in promoting a culture of peace, fostering dialogue and understanding among peoples, also thanks to the support of many local organizations in the Bergamo area, such as Fondazione Pesenti, which through their support contribute to the education of new generations of active and aware citizens.”

“The collaboration between Fondazione Pesenti and Intercultura has over time enabled more than 50 outstanding students to spend a period abroad in countries that are deeply different both culturally and in educational approach,” emphasized Sergio Crippa, Secretary General of Fondazione Pesenti. “Through this experience, students gain a profound awareness of the value of humanity and cultural diversity, become more conscious in finding their role in the world, and develop greater responsibility and curiosity. This year, the choice was to support scholarships for educational programs in Europe, with the ambition that the European dimension, which is increasingly important over time, can become a common heritage for these promising students.”

Joining Sergio Crippa and Mietta Denti Rodeschini’s wishes were messages from some of the 2022-2023 scholarship recipients, Omar D. and Luca R., who completed their study periods in Panama and Mexico. It is now tradition to foster a meeting between “outgoing” students and those “returning” from the Intercultura experience supported by Fondazione Pesenti, facilitating the creation of an alumni network united by this extraordinary experience.
