“1000+1 ANNI DI LUCE” (1000+1 YEARS OF LIGHT)

Fondazione Pesenti chose to support the initiative “1000+1 YEARS OF LIGHT“, launched by the Dominican Friars of Bergamo as part of the Bergamo-Brescia Italian Capitals of Culture 2022/2023 event. The project aims to equip the Church of Saints Bartholomew and Stephen with a new lighting system and to enhance the artistic works housed within it—most notably, the Martinengo Altarpiece by Lorenzo Lotto and the wooden inlays of the choir by Friar Damiano Zambello.

The meaning behind the name

The number “1000” is a tribute to Bergamo – the City of the Thousand, which has been home to the Dominican Friars for centuries.

The “+1” symbolizes the passing of almost one year since the anniversary of the church’s consecration. The Church of Saints Bartholomew and Stephen, owned by the Diocese of Bergamo and officiated by the Dominican Friars since 1572, was consecrated on January 19, 1782, by the Bishop of Bergamo, Mons. Paolo Dolfini. As of today, 240 years + 1 have passed since that event.
