Noemi is sharing with us a monthly update on her experience abroad, made possible through the Intercultura year-long program in the United States.
Relationship with the host family:
My relationship with my host family continues to be unstable. There’s still no real sense of family—it feels more like a group of people just sharing a house.
Relationship with the host community and friends:
The local community is very welcoming and inclusive. My friendships are generally good, though sometimes inconsistent.
School integration and academic progress, both in terms of performance and relationships with teachers and students:
Adapting to school life was hard at first, but things have gradually improved. The teachers are always kind and supportive.
Extracurricular activities:
During the first two months, I was part of the tennis team. Now I’m considering joining either the track or lacrosse teams.
With my “Singers” class, I took part in the musical Mary Poppins.
Three things I’ll never forget (positive):
The joy and surprise of how happy I felt being part of Mary Poppins.
The ice hockey games.

The instability of my family situation.
Often feeling lonely.
Regretting being placed here.
