The meeting was inspired by the book L’utopia Sostenibile by Enrico Giovannini – who was among the conference speakers alongside Maurizio Ferrera and Giuliano Pisapia – and offered a reflection on the current development model and the paths to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda Goals.
As the author writes, “…To build a better future, we need a utopia. A sustainable utopia… Hunger, health, water, poverty, energy, infrastructure, employment, inequalities, climate, peace, education are issues that can only be addressed with integrated thinking and the collaboration of political, economic, and social forces.
Continuing to think and act as in the past means driving our world into a deep environmental, economic, and social crisis. The commitment of everyone is required, along with a profound change in how we understand and face the problems around us.”
