Saturday, October 7 – Gianluca Nicoletti, journalist, and Elena Carnevali, parliamentarian, present the docufilm “Tommy and the Others” by Gianluca Nicoletti and Massimiliano Sbrolla at the Lab80 Auditorium in Bergamo, on the occasion of the ninth edition of Molte Fedi sotto lo stesso Cielo, once again supported this year by Fondazione Pesenti.
Who is Tommy? What will he do when he grows up, he who was born autistic, when his father can no longer care for him? And the others who suffer from the same condition? How will they manage in the world? Who will take care of them? These are many of the questions that Gianluca Nicoletti, journalist and Tommy’s father, asked himself while making this docufilm. Mothers and fathers recount their day while keeping close to them the giants who were once children, to whom they have dedicated their lives. From these stories emerge loneliness and a sense of abandonment, while they wait for a fate that represents a daily dilemma for the parents: “What will become of my son when I am no longer by his side?” Some parents, however, do not give up; they plan, dream, and imagine solutions through which their children can have dignity in life and real social inclusion.
Gianluca Nicoletti, director and journalist, voice of Radio 24, has transformed his family story into an opportunity to raise awareness about autism. He believes it is necessary, even through every narrative and cinematic means, to talk about autism in order to address its challenges with everyday concreteness.
Elena Carnevali, parliamentarian from Bergamo, is the promoter of the “Dopo di noi” (After Us) law, passed by parliament in 2016, for the autonomy of people with disabilities, especially when the original family is no longer able to care for them, and for their social inclusion.
