Monday, September 11, 2017 – Fondazione Pesenti supports Molte Fedi sotto lo stesso cielo 2017. The first event features the writer Daniel Pennac with his talk: “10 anni di Molte Fedi. Loro sono con noi” (“10 Years of Molte Fedi. They Are With Us”), held at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo.
“If a man, a woman, a child is suffering and no one comes to their aid, we will hear it all.
All the excuses, all the justifications, all the good reasons not to lend a hand.
When it comes to not helping someone, we hear everything.
Starting with silence.
If that man, that woman, that child is not suffering alone, if war is at our doorstep,
if there are thousands, tens, hundreds of thousands, maybe a million asking for help,
we cannot remain silent. Our silence would be deafening.”
Daniel Pennac, an internationally renowned writer and a key figure in contemporary French culture, has devoted his life to writing: from his hugely successful novels centered on the character Benjamin Malaussène and his multiethnic family, to plays and monologues, children’s books, and essays.
His latest novel, Il caso Malaussène – Mi hanno mentito (The Malaussène Case – They Lied to Me, 2017, Feltrinelli), brings the famous family into the present day, exploring intergenerational relationships. In Eux, c’est nous (They Are Us), he addressed the themes of multiculturalism in French society, borders, and the ethics of hospitality.
