Since 2021, Fondazione Pesenti has supported LILT – the Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer (Lega Italiana per la Lotta contro i Tumori) in an innovative program for personalized cancer prevention, based on a sophisticated data analysis method (data mining), developed using the world’s largest breast cancer screening database.
The project began in 2020 with Mammorisk, a program aimed at women over 40, which includes a test capable of calculating an individual’s risk of developing breast cancer. The algorithm used combines medical history, breast density detected through mammography, and a salivary genetic test (PRS) to generate a personalized risk profile. Based on this profile, a five-year early diagnosis plan is established.
Three years later, the initiative evolved with the launch of SenoRisk, an extension of the program targeting new population groups: women under 40 and men with a family history or genetic predisposition to the disease—two groups that had previously been excluded from systematic screening programs.
Specifically, the project aims to provide highly specialized, multidisciplinary support to: women from age 20 with family histories of breast, uterine, or ovarian cancer; men from age 20 with multiple family cases of breast cancer or confirmed genetic mutations.
The goal is to expand access to tailored prevention, based on individual risk rather than age alone—helping achieve increasingly early and effective diagnoses, even among less traditionally monitored groups.
