“A Scuola in Europa” (At School in Europe): Awarded 11 Scholarships for Students from Technical and Vocational Institutes

The winners are deserving students residing in Campania, Lombardy, and Piedmont. They will depart this summer for three months to Flemish Belgium, France, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and Hungary.

The 11 scholarship winners of the “A Scuola in Europa” program were awarded at the Milan headquarters of Fondazione Pesenti. This initiative was born from a partnership between Fondazione Agnelli, Fondazione Cav. Lav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti Ets, UniCredit Foundation, and Fondazione Intercultura. The selected girls and boys will receive scholarships to attend a school trimester abroad, hosted by local families and supported by Intercultura volunteers.

Now in its second edition, the “A Scuola in Europa” project awards fully funded trimester scholarships in Flemish Belgium, France, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and Hungary. Eligible candidates are meritorious students residing in Campania, Lombardy, and Piedmont. A distinctive feature of the project is its focus on students from technical and vocational institutes, who often have fewer opportunities to study abroad compared to peers attending high schools.

Departures are scheduled for summer 2023. The overseas experience includes accommodation in selected families, attending a local school with a curriculum aligned to their home program, and is closely followed by a group of volunteers on site. At the end of the period, students will receive from Intercultura a certification of the skills acquired during each phase of the program, which represents a total investment of 100,000 euros.

In a mix of emotions and expectations for the upcoming departure, the students were awarded during a ceremony introduced by Carlo Pesenti, President of Fondazione Cav Lav. Lav. Pesenti, and Giorgio Barba Navaretti (University of Milan). Representatives from the Foundations attending included Silvia Cappellini, General Director of UniCredit Foundation; Barbara Romano, Researcher at Fondazione Agnelli; and Sergio Crippa, Secretary General of Fondazione Cav. Lav. Pesenti.. Andrea Franzoi, Secretary General of Intercultura, also participated.

Sergio Crippa, Secretary General of Fondazione Cav. Lav. Pesenti “Living and studying abroad is the best way to learn to know, respect, and appreciate cultures different from our own, expanding one’s horizons through the exchange of experiences and values, and learning to think as citizens of a truly global world, without borders, but with a special focus on Europe. This belief is the foundation of the ‘Going to School in Europe’ project, which we are pleased to share with prestigious partners such as Fondazione Agnelli, UniCredit Foundation, and Intercultura. It is even more important because it targets students from vocational institutes who rarely have the opportunity to experience educational contexts abroad.”
