Fondazione Pesenti and the Intercultura program
This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the international association Intercultura, which has been active for years in organizing student exchange programs abroad. For the third consecutive year, it gives young people between 15 and 17 years old the chance to spend time abroad attending a local public school.
The Intercultura program
The program foresees departure in July or August 2011 and return in July 2012. Two young people (one Italian going abroad and one foreign student coming to Italy) will spend the period abroad with a host family, which will become their family during the stay, attending the local public school.
The project, with high educational value, aims to promote meeting and dialogue among young people from different cultures and aligns strongly with the Foundation’s objectives.
Application process
Applications must be submitted by October 2010 following the procedures set out in the call for applications. Intercultura, after interviews with candidates including tests of suitability for participation in the offered programs, will draw up a ranking of participants based on academic merit, motivation, and attitude towards living abroad.
Host countries
The possible host countries for the Italian student include Belgium/France, Spain, China, Thailand, Egypt, Canada, USA, and India — countries where both Italcementi and the corresponding Intercultura organization operate. For the foreign student coming to Italy, the chosen country for this initiative by Fondazione Intercultura is Egypt.
Intercultura Association
Intercultura Onlus Association has been promoting intercultural dialogue for 50 years through international exchange programs involving thousands of young people and families worldwide. It works to promote the internationalization of the Italian school system by providing examples of best practices and training sessions on managing exchanges (it is an accredited training body for school staff by the Ministry of Education). The Association offers scholarships to support international student mobility for deserving young people. The Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs participate in and support the activities of Fondazione Intercultura.
