Industrial activity in terms of growth and sustainability,
and the expectations and passions of the new generations.
Bergamo, November 23, 2005 – On the occasion of the presentation of the book “Italcementi: From National Leadership to Internationalization” by Vera Zamagni, Fondazione Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti promoted the round table “Between History and the Future of the Italian Industrial System”. The event was held at the University of Bergamo and attended by representatives from academia, institutions, and industry. It was also followed via web streaming and chat conference by tutors and students from four prestigious Italian universities: Bergamo, Bocconi Milan, Bologna, and Alta Scuola Politecnica Milan-Turin.

After welcome remarks by Alberto Castoldi, Rector of the University of Bergamo, and Giovanni Giavazzi, President of the Foundation, the discussion featured contributions from:
Alberto Bombassei, Vice President of Confindustria
Mario Deaglio, Professor of International Economics at the University of Turin
Giampiero Pesenti
Angelo Tantazzi, President of Borsa Italiana
Vera Zamagni, Professor of Economic History at the University of Bologna

The initiative aimed, on the one hand, to bring industry and industrial activity—particularly in terms of growth and sustainability—back to the attention of graduating students and recent graduates involved in high-level post-graduate programs. On the other hand, it sought to relay in real-time to entrepreneurs, professors, and both financial and non-financial institutions the questions, expectations, and passions of today’s youth.

“The choice of venue—the University—and of protagonists—the young,” said Giovanni Giavazzi, President of the Foundation, “reflects the intention to transmit to the new generations about to enter the workforce the memory and values of a successful industrial enterprise.”
