Fondazione Pesenti and Doctors with Africa (Medici con l’Africa CUAMM)

Fondazione Pesenti ETS supported Doctors with Africa CUAMM during the years 2021 and 2022.

These contributions were used to support the Midwifery School in Lui, South Sudan, with the goal of ensuring the presence of qualified staff for both theoretical and practical classroom training, as well as mentoring students during their internships at the hospital. The donation also helped fund the purchase and updating of IT equipment used for student education, in addition to covering the school’s operational costs. This investment has had a direct impact on the training of healthcare personnel in South Sudan, contributing to the improvement of the quality of medical and obstetric care in the region.

The Foundation also provided essential support for the organization of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the Pujehun district of Sierra Leone. This contribution helped structure and accelerate the implementation of the campaign, including the transportation of vaccines to healthcare centers—even the most remote ones—training of the personnel involved, and raising awareness among the local population.

Thanks to this donation, personal protective equipment, medical tools, and supplies were also purchased for health centers.

Mother and baby, our priority!

This is the chorus sung, danced to, and solemnly sworn by the ten new midwifery graduates from the hospital school in Lui, South Sudan—eight young men and two women. Their eyes shine with determination and hope. They are the ones pushing us toward the future. One of them told me:
“I am ready to serve my community anywhere I am needed.”
That’s a revolution—for South Sudan! To hear talk of service, of community, of wanting to respond to the needs of the poorest. Real revolutions begin with steady, tireless work, with sowing “day by day,” amid struggles, sacrifices, and hard effort. Before the graduation ceremony, the students paraded through the streets of Lui, sharing their celebration with the community. On the roadside, children holding hoes watched in awe as the graduates passed in their gowns—eyes full of dreams of exchanging weapons for those very hoes (precious as they are), and eventually for books.
