Un dato di fatto (A matter of fact)

The culture of data between reality, representation, and emotion

On November 30, 2021, the event titled “A Matter of Fact. The culture of data between reality, representation, and emotion” was held—promoted by Fondazione Pesenti and Fondazione Corriere della Sera—and broadcast live on the relevant digital platforms.

Speakers included:
Matteo Kalchschmidt, Professor of Innovation and Project Management, University of Bergamo
Stefano Paleari, Professor of Financial Systems Analysis and Public Management, University of Bergamo
Giulia Pastorella, EU Government Relations Director, Zoom
The discussion was moderated by Danilo Taino, journalist for Corriere della Sera.

More than ever during the recent pandemic—with its continuous flow of data—we experienced the power of numbers and how their changes guide decisions. At the same time, we witnessed how, where there is power, there can also be misuse. The debate aimed to reflect on the importance and sensitivity of data, and on the need to cultivate a “data culture”, not only for decision-makers, but also for all citizens who wish to engage with the future consciously and critically.

The event took inspiration from the book “Un dato di fatto” (A Matter of Fact), authored by Stefano Paleari, Matteo Kalchschmidt, and Lucio Cassia, published by Francesco Brioschi Editore.
