REASON AND COMMON SENSE

Dangers and hopes for our country

On February 19, 2020, the event titled “REASON AND COMMON SENSE. Dangers and hopes for our country” took place today at the Fondazione Corriere della Sera with Ferruccio de Bortoli | Veronica De Romanis | Salvatore Rossi | moderator Daniele Manca

Conferences are one of the main “public” moments of the Fondazione Pesenti, which have featured the participation of the most authoritative representatives from academia, institutions, media, and civil society (from Nobel laureates in economics Stiglitz and Spence, to former governor of the Indian Central Bank Raghuram Rajan, to figures like Alex Zanardi). Since 2018, Fondazione Pesenti has established a prestigious partnership with Fondazione Corriere, aimed at promoting current topics with increasing effectiveness and to a broader audience (not only geographically).

Daniele Manca, Deputy Director of Corriere della Sera, Veronica De Romanis, Economist, Salvatore Rossi, President of Telecom Italia at the conference “REASON AND COMMON SENSE” at Fondazione Corriere.

In this meeting, some of the main distinguished witnesses of the great economic and political changes of recent decades engaged in a reflection both personal and civic on the struggles of the country, their remote and recent causes, and the ways to overcome them. A dialogue to learn and understand, addressing issues ranging from the possible decline of the Italian economy to the relationship with Europe—mother or stepmother—from the concept of austerity in public finances to ancient Italian flaws in law, education, competition, finance, from sustainable development to the strengths that the Italian economy nonetheless retains, from the convulsions of our political system to the vicious circle of information. Modest in normal times, exceptional in emergencies: Italy will survive but the future-rich path will belong to aware citizens, not to shouting crowds.
