Promoting research, ethics and culture to spread the values and principles of sustainable business development. A development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the social, economic and environmental needs of future generations.
Bergamo, 27 November 2004 – Establishment of the Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti Foundation.
The Cav. Lav. Carlo Pesenti Foundation was launched at an official ceremony at the Theater Donizetti attended by major local and national political authorities and representatives of industry and finance.
According to Giampiero Pesenti, Chairman of Italcementi, and Giovanni Giavazzi, Chairman of the newly born foundation, the main objective of the Foundation is to promote research, ethics and culture to spread the values and principles of sustainable business development.
“Italcementi and Italmobiliare created this Foundation dedicated to my father, said Giampiero Pesenti, to support education and scientific research, focused on sustainability in business activity.”
Carlo Pesenti (1907-1984) was one of the leading industrial and financial Italian players in the post-war period. Son of Augusto, one of the six brothers who established the company ‘Fratelli Pesenti fu Antonio’, Carlo was the third generation in the entrepreneurial history of the Pesenti family.
Development and Innovation
“Development and innovation: the commitment that has been our focus for 140 years since the establishment of our business activity. Five generations of my family have been in this business, since the establishment, in 1864 of the company named ‘Società Bergamasca per la Fabbricazione del Cemento e della Calce Idraulica’ that subsequenty merged with the ‘Fratelli Pesenti fu Antonio’.”
In pursuing its objectives, the Foundation, presently chaired by Giovanni Giavazzi (Chairman) and Giampiero Pesenti (Vice Chairman), will collaborate with national and international public- and private-sector organizations.
The Establishment of a Foundation
“The establishment of this Foundation represents at the same time a nod to the tradition of our corporate business and a boost to the future. Our Group has always had a long tradition of attention and participation in initiatives ranging from social assistance to patronage, from culture to research, from relational to territorial needs. The establishment of this Foundation is a sign of trust, an expression of hope and an assumption of responsibility,” said Giovanni Giavazzi.
The Foundation is a non-profit, autonomous and independent institution. It will support scientific research and technology innovation to promote the economic and social development of local communities.
The Board of Directors
The Board of Directors, on the President’s request, can appoint a Scientific Committee to support its activities.
“Sustainable development means a new challenge for businesses, different from the past in complexity and nature.
It is now essential to follow the ‘triple bottom line’ of sustainable development focused not only on the economic value but also on social development and environmental protection.
For this reason, businesses’ growth must be oriented toward an industrial development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the social, economic and environmental needs of future generations,” underlined Italcementi CEO, Carlo Pesenti.
