THE SUSTAINABILITY OF UTOPIAS

On December 12, 2019, the event titled “THE SUSTAINABILITY OF UTOPIAS”  took place at the Fondazione Corriere della Sera, featuring Giacomo Poretti | Miriam Martinelli | Lia Quartapelle | Alessio Rocca | Alessandro Rosina, with Nicola Saldutti as moderator.

Conferences are one of the main “public” moments of the Fondazione Pesenti, which have featured the participation of the most authoritative representatives from academia, institutions, media, and civil society (from Nobel laureates in economics Stiglitz and Spence, to former governor of the Indian Central Bank Raghuram Rajan, to figures like Alex Zanardi). Since 2018, Fondazione Pesenti has established a prestigious partnership with Fondazione Corriere, aimed at promoting current topics with increasing effectiveness and to a broader audience (not only geographically).

The ambition of this event is to explore how to provide a structured response to the demands raised by the new generations—from the environmental alarm sounded by Greta Thunberg (recently named

“Person of the Year” by Time magazine, which since 1927 every December has featured on its cover the person who has most influenced the previous 12 months) to the new movements calling for a more inclusive and community-oriented vision.

How can we follow up on movements, protests, and actions that have awakened direct participation and mobilized especially young people toward “higher” ideals?
