“Il Viaggio della Parola” (The Journey of the Word) at the exhibition “XXVI Compasso d’Oro – Putting Down Roots”

On September 9 at 11:30 a.m., the award ceremony for the XXIV Compasso d’Oro Prize  was held at the new headquarters of the ADI Design Museum. On the same day, at 3:00 p.m., the exhibition “XXVI Compasso d’Oro – Putting Down Roots”  was inaugurated. Among the featured projects was “Il Viaggio della Parola”, curated by Ginette Caron (coordination and artistic direction), Marco Imperadori (Politecnico di Milano), Alessio Pesenti (NordZinc), with the support of Fondazione Pesenti, and promoted by Pontificium Consilium de Cultura and Caritas Ambrosiana.

Il Viaggio della Parola is a project involving the restoration and worldwide relocation of 25 sacred inscriptions originally displayed at the Holy See Pavilion during EXPO MILANO 2015. Already awarded a “Grand Prix du Design” in Montreal in 2018, the project was selected by the ADI Design Index  as one of the best Italian design works of 2019. It was included among the 227 projects (chosen from 900) that now compete in the “Design for Social” category for the most prestigious design award,  the Compasso d’Oro.

The Compasso d’oro

Established in 1954, the ADI Compasso d’Oro Prize is the oldest and most prestigious international design award. Conceived by Gio Ponti, it was later entrusted to ADI, which has organized it since 1964. Nearly three hundred projects have received the award in over fifty years, along with nearly two thousand that have received an Honourable Mention. These are all preserved in the Historical Collection of the ADI Compasso d’Oro Prize. The prize is awarded following a preselection by the ADI Design Observatory, composed of a commission of experts, designers, critics, historians, specialized journalists, ADI members or external collaborators, all of whom are committed to collecting information year after year and evaluating and selecting the best products, later published in the ADI Design Index yearbooks.
