Project profile of the Fondazione Pesenti special prize winner

MedHic is an exchange platform serving a broad network of hospital companies that collaborate to manage medicines near expiry or urgently needed.
A fundamental component offered by MedHic is an integrated tool that, connected to hospital IT systems, allows automatic uploading of medicines nearing expiry and makes them available to the community.
MedHic addresses the concrete needs of hundreds of hospital pharmacists. The computerized exchange of medicines between healthcare companies allows at the same time:

• Management of emergencies: the platform connects hospital hubs in real time, automatically selecting the closest ones.
• Reduction of waste: the main advantage lies in extending the drug’s lifecycle. The exchange of a medicine close to expiry on one hand eliminates the risk of obsolescence and thus cancellation of residual value, and on the other ensures the hospital receives a new medicine with a much longer expiry date.
• Reduction of disposal costs as well as respect for the environment.
