Giovanna Mazzoleni is Associate Professor of General Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Brescia.
Since 1995 she is Chair of “General Physiopathology” (CLM in Medicine and Surgery), General Pathology and Physiopathology (various CL of Health Professions) and is responsible for the Departmental Coordination of the Integrated Courses of General Pathology, at the University of Brescia.
Since 2014 she is Deputy Director of the Inter-Departmental Research Center on “Integrated Study Models of Health Protection and Disease Prevention in Living and Working Environments” (MISTRAL) at the University of Brescia.
Since 1990 she has actively participated as a scientific manager / project manager in various programs funded by the European Community (Bridge BIOT-CT91-0261; Biotechnology BIO4-CT97-2148; EXERA LSHB-CT2006- 037168; LIFE12 ENV / IT / 000614 MAPEC_LIFE), and in national and international research programs focused on the development of innovative in vitro models to be used as reliable pharma-toxicological testing systems and in the field of cancer translational medicine (“patient targeted therapy”). In cooperation with various Chairs of Occupational Medicine, Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Engineering, she has also coordinated several research groups within the framework of national inter-university projects, focused on in vitro methods for the determination of the mechanisms responsible for the organ-/tissue-specific toxicity of heavy metals and endocrine disruptors (EDs). More recently large part of her research has been devoted to the study of spatial systems biomedicine and, in particular, the physio-pathogenesis of osteodystrophy induced by microgravity.
During her career, she has held various academic positions and executive roles in research centers. She is a member of several national and international scientific organizations, with interests in the field of experimental physiopathology, toxicology and space medicine. She has participated in more than 100 national and international congresses and is author of more than 150 scientific publications indexed with “international peer review” (full papers, chapters of books and full-abstracts). She is author / co-author of a range of educational texts related to her research interests.
